Made by Coca Cola and classified as a coffee flavored energy drink ~May 25, 2012
By Christopher Barrett
"Evil Corgi"
I have come to expect Illy coffee to symbolize good and consistent quality. I do prefer other brands of espresso, but Illy's consistency is great since it is to be found in many restaurants around the globe.
So it is with some sadness that I write a negative review. First off - please note that this is actually a coffee flavored energy beverage made and packaged by Coca Cola. Illy has partnered in order to take proceeds by allowing their name to be used. There might be a some of their coffee used, but it would be processed coffee extract, and so there wouldn't be much reason to use expensive Arabica coffee when extract from lower quality Robusto would work.
This canned beverage seems to taste pleasant enough at first, but then it starts to turn metallic. The coffee flavor really is a 'coffee flavor'. There is just something artificial and chemical tasting about this drink. Granted, it's only 45 calories, most coming from the beet extract sweetener. But regular iced coffee with agave, or stevia can come in at the same calorie count or less. Don't be lured in by the low calorie claim: fresh brewed iced coffee without sweetener? Zero calories. Yes. Zero. (okay, actually 0.01 calories! sorry!) So it's not like they're really doing anything crazy by offering this at 45 calories.
I am spoiled by having high quality coffee at hand at home, and I find that it is MUCH cheaper to brew a pot of coffee for iced coffee. Or brew a half pot of concentrated coffee (French press works great), pour into sealable glass jug, add cold water (to equal the regular volume and strength), and put into fridge with top closed. Then take out, pour into glass, add your choice of milk, sweetener, ice, or just drink plain. I have found this method produces cost effective and delicious chilled coffee for whenever you want it. My price formula: 1lb coffee = $16 (Peet's various coffees, avg price) / 1 lb = about 8 medium French press brews / 1 medium French press = 34 ounces of coffee (8 European cups) / 8 oz avg coffee serving =
$0.47 per serving.
Yes, the press I have cost $40, but over time it is worth it. You can also use a drip brewer, siphon, or Chemex. So with about five minutes of prep/brew time and a sealable glass carafe, you can make a similar beverage that tastes better in my opinion and costs less than $0.50 for a slightly larger serving than these Illy-issimos.
I'm sorry Illy and Coca Cola. I would not consume this drink again unless I was absolutely dying of thirst.

A great energy boosterMay 09, 2012
By Monica Garcia I had previously tasted and loved the illy issimo Coffee Drink, Cappucino, 8.45-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12) so I figured I would give this one a shot and wasn't disappointed.
The drink has a good balance between coffee and the sweetness. I thought the flavor was very similar to the iced coffee drinks I get from Starbucks and at about $1.92 per can the illy Caffe drink is a much better value. I chilled the can for several days before drinking and got a pretty good energy burst from the drink. With that being said I would like to mention that I'm only an occassional coffee drinker. I'll have a coffee or frappucino from Starbucks a few times a month so more frequent coffee drinker might not get the same energy boost I did. Overall all I recommend this drink for coffee lovers who like to mix thiings up every once in a while.

Great energy; sweet flavor to start, metallic to finishMay 07, 2012
By D. A. Ross I buy illy coffee and espresso grounds on a fairly regular basis, as it is one of my favorite brands of coffee, so I was excited to try their issimo Coffee Drink, Caffe. The first thing to hit me was the sweetness, which was a little unexpected, since I don't normally drink coffee quite that sweet, but it wasn't too overpowering. The overall flavor was actually fairly robust, but missing that fresh-roasted bite, and had a somewhat unpleasant artificial/manufactured aftertaste (perhaps from being housed in a can?).
I did, however, get a big energy perk from the coffee, which allowed me to focus and bolstered me through my morning work.
Overall, I think I'll stick with fresh ground illy, as there is no beating fresh espresso in the morning. But, if I'm ever in a pinch and need a quick pick-me-up, I might consider grabbing a can as a quick substitute.

Ily Cappuccino taste betterApr 02, 2012

This coffee is very bitter with a strong bold taste. Heating it up (if you like your drink warm) makes it more bitter.
It has a strong coffee aroma, and its not too sweet. I could only take a couple of sips of it, and this 1 can lasted me 2-3 days because I wasn't enamored with the flavor. If you like tasty coffee, illy Cappuccino is a lot better. I felt this product has more of a caffeine punch that the Starbucks double shot cans.
I didn't find anything special with this drink (and to be perfectly honest, it made me kind of nauseous on a empty stomach). It also increase my acid reflux just a bit. Will not be ordering in the future.

BOLD FLAVORMar 28, 2012
By Lisa M I really liked the illy Cappuccino coffee drink I previously tried, so I thought I would enjoy this caffe' Italian Espresso style coffee drink as well. While this is less calories (50 per can) and has a really bold flavor, it is a bit too strong for my liking. Now if you are a regular espresso drinker, you will most likely enjoy this very much. I tend to go for my drinks on the sweeter side. I also felt this drink was a bit on the "watery" side. I would have liked it to bit creamier, but obviously that would mean more calories. I also believe espresso tends to be stronger in general. So lesson here: I should have known better because I am not a HUGE fan of espresso. Now that being said, it still was good enough that I would enjoy it occasionally as a mid-day pick me up drink because it certainly helped get me through a mid-day slump! It wasn't all that bad, just not something I, myself would drink everyday.
